El Dorado won 5 awards at the OC Film Festival held on Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 at Northwood High School. “Thriller” was named BEST MUSIC VIDEO and “Wizard Remnant” was named BEST SHORT FILM. Both films were directed by Josh D. Josh was honored as BEST DIRECTOR for his work on “Wizard Remnant.” Also, Janell L, Nader V and Josh D were named BEST PRODUCERS and Lexi K was named BEST ACTOR for their work on “Thriller.” The OC Film Festival had over 100 entries from 12 Orange County high school film programs like the one at El Dorado.
The Video Production students have a big night coming up on Saturday, January 3rd. That is the night of the Orange County Film Festival (exclusively for High School students) which is held at Northwood High School every January.
El Dorado earned 5 film/video/broadcast nominations this year and 16 overall nominations including all individual awards. The big winner here is EDHS student Josh D with 9 individual nominations. Last year, we had 12 total nominations. The nominations were not easily earned and the festival had more submissions than ever before with over 100 from participating schools.

Congratulations to the
EDHS Mock Trial team, who advanced to the
Orange County Mock Trial Championship for the second consecutive year! EDHS has one of the most successful programs in the history of the competition, having appeared in the finals more often than any other team in the county. Mock Trial is an incredibly demanding competition that combines elements of debate and drama with legal reasoning. Students, serving as attorneys and witnesses, prepare a hypothetical case for trial, and compete against another school’s trial team before a sitting judge of Orange County Superior Court. This year’s case featured the crimes of arson and urging riot; the defendant, a community activist in a small town, was accused of setting a fire on the land of a religious group living in a secluded area outside of town.
You are invited to attend a PSAT Interpretation Night on Tuesday, December 16th at 6:30 p.m. at the theater. This is a great opportunity to learn how to interpret your PSAT results. Results will be passed out at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:00 p.m. If you cannot make it, PSAT results will be handed out at break in front of the attendance window December 17th through 19th.
ROMEO AND JULIET – This week the theatre department will open their production of Romeo and Juliet. Tickets will be on sale all week in front of the theatre. Tickets bought by Friday will be $6.00. Tickets for next Wednesdays performance will be $5.00 for EDHS students with an I.D. The show runs December 5th, 6th, 10th, and 12th at 7:30 p.m.

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery will be administered to all eleventh grade students at 8:00am on November 5, 2008. The ASVAB is a widely used multiple aptitude test that assists students in learning more about their abilities and interests.
Last week, El Dorado sold out of PSAT tests for the upcoming testing session. However, counselor Dana Armstrong was able to acquire more tests from Esperanza High School. We now have 70 more PSAT tests. We are only selling the tests through Wednesday, October 15th, at 3:00pm SHARP. Do not wait until the last minute!!
