Our testing results from the 16-17 school year were positive. In Advanced Placement (AP), we had an increase of over 100 students test and our percentage of students scoring three or higher increased slightly. We have added three new AP classes for the 17-18 school year -- Computer Science Principles, Environmental Science, and Psychology. The state testing or CAASPP results are in, and EDHS’ scores are well ahead of all the averages.
This year one significant change you can expect to see is a new Language Arts textbook. Teachers have already attended training on all the new features of the textbooks. They are small paperback units that have a wealth of online content. To ensure students have access to the online materials, chromebooks will be available to each Language Arts classroom. This is a tremendous increase in the amount of technology on campus and we are excited about it.
Finally, this is another big year for EDHS. In March the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) will spend four days on campus reviewing our Focus on Learning report. WASC accreditation ensures that other high schools and colleges will accept our students. Some time late in the year we will know the term of our accreditation. The staff has been working on the report for several years. It is an on-going self study about 200 pages long.
I look forward to meeting with you at our Back to School Night on September 13th. Please check the edhs.org web site frequently for updates. You can also follow EDHS on social media:
