OC Waste & Recycling Training Program for graduating seniors!

Attention Seniors! 

Here is a job opportunity that might be of interest to you after you graduate.  The County of Orange’s OC Career Academy (OCCA) pilot program is a new program (up to one year) aimed at providing opportunities for recent high school graduates to receive on-the-job training in preparation for a career path with the County of Orange. Please note that the program is up to one year, although there is no guarantee of permanent employment, participants can apply and compete for regular County positions. After six months of full time work experience in this program (and given an open recruitment), a participant will be have the experience to apply and compete for a regular Landfill Laborer position with the County. Please see the brochure below detailing more information about the program.

Specifically, this opportunity for the Laborer Pathway is at the Brea Olinda Alpha Landfill located at 1942 N Valencia Ave, Brea, CA 92823.  

Attached you will see the training roadmap in the brochure. Please note that along with the program-related/on-the-job training participants of this program will also receive professional skill training for Professionalism, Communication, General Workplace Safety, Teamwork, Microsoft Office, Accountability, and Interviewing. In addition, OC Waste & Recycling’s (OCWR) onboarding will also provide participants with Landfill Safety training, OCWR 101 training, and Hazardous Household Waste training.

Each landfill location (Brea, Irvine, San Juan Capistrano) is hosting one (1) position for this program. The Laborer Pathway rate is $17.36. The schedules will be a 4/10 Schedules and will either be for a Wednesday – Saturday schedule or a Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday schedules depending on location.
