Policies and Expectations 2009 - 2010
Mrs. Gartner
Classroom Expectations
I expect my students to behave in a school appropriate manner. Good behavior will be welcomed and appreciated. Any misbehavior will be dealt with in the fitting way according to the school handbook.
Your citizenship grade will be determined by your conduct in class. Please remember to treat others as you would want to be treated. Respect others and their property. I expect you to use appropriate language in class. Any use of foul language will not be tolerated. Disrespectful words directed at the teacher will quickly earn you a trip to the office.
EDHS has an honesty policy. If you are caught cheating, there are dire consequences. These consequences are listed in the handbook. Copying another student’s homework is considered a violation of the school’s academic honesty policy. Remember if you cheat, you are only hurting yourself in the long run. You will be the one not learning!
The school dress code will be enforced. No I Pods, CD players, cell phones, pagers, or PDA’s are allowed to be used in class. Cell phones are not to be used from
Attendance and Tardy Policy
Attendance will be taken at the beginning of class. If you are not in your assigned seat when the bell rings, you will be given a tardy. The following policy for tardiness will be followed:
Tardy 1-2 Warning
Tardy 3 30 minute detention
Tardy 7 Referral to Attendance Director
Each student needs to remain seated until dismissed by the teacher. If you have been absent, a readmit slip is required in order to return to class. Standing in line to obtain a readmit slip is not an excused tardy. Please be in class everyday so that you can learn your math and not get behind.
Restroom Policy
Each student will receive 3 restroom passes at the beginning of each semester. Once these are used, restroom use will be treated as a tardy. There is plenty of time to use the facilities during breaks and passing periods. (If a student has a medical reason where freedom to use the restroom at any time is a necessity, please let me know.)
Grading Policy
Tests, quizzes, homework, projects, and your notebook will determine your academic grade. Tests and quizzes will account for approximately 80% of your final grade while your homework, notebook, and projects will make up the remaining 20%. Your grade will be based on a percentage. 90% and up will receive and A; 80% to 89.9% will be a B; 70% to 79.9% earns a C; 60% to 69.9% gets a D; and 59.9% or lower deserves
an F.
Tests and Assignments
I request that each student keep a math notebook in which to take notes. Note taking will be required. All notes must be titled by section and in order. Each section title should be highlighted.
Weekly quizzes will be given and are worth 10-15% of your grade. These quizzes will cover the previous week’s mixed review problems. Tests will be given at the end of each chapter. Tests will be kept in a folder in my file cabinet. They are not to be taken home.
So that you can learn as much as possible, homework will be assigned everyday. Homework assignments are generally worth 3 points and are to be done on graph paper. Each assignment will be due at the beginning of the period. All problems must be written out and all work must be shown or no credit will be received. I will look at the homework daily and will stamp it with usually 3 points if it is finished. You will be responsible for keeping the homework in your notebook until test day for that chapter. Then the assignments from that chapter will be turned in as a “homework packet”.
Part of the daily homework assignments is working mixed review problems. One point will be given each day for completed work. These assignments will be turned in with the “homework packet” at the end of each chapter.
I will accept only 5 unexcused late assignments during each semester. For these, you will receive 5 “consequence free” passes per semester. These may be used at any time during the semester for late homework. You will receive full credit for your work as long as the work is turned in within a week of the due date by placing the “consequence free” sticker on your work. There are times when homework can be made up without the use of a “consequence free” pass. In the case of excused absences the school policy will be followed. If you will be missing class due to an extra-curricular event, arrangements for making up the missed work are to be made prior to the event. Due dates will not be extended for this type of absence. Extended absences require you to make individual arrangements with me.
Supplies
A hard back 100-paged composition book with 5 x 5 grid, graph paper for homework assignments, colored pens other than black or blue, and pencils are needed. A basic scientific calculator that performs only multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, and square roots will be allowed. (Calculators will not be used on most of the tests.)
Please place in your math folder.
