Course Overview
Advanced Placement European History is a year long course equivalent to the rigor of a college introductory course. Students are introduced to the social, artistic, cultural, political, and economic developments from 1450 to the modern era. Emphasis is placed on principal themes in modern European History: intellectual, political and social, in addition to students comprehending events, movements and chronology. Aside from providing a basic narrative of time periods, the goals of AP European History are for students to: demonstrate an ability to analyze historical evidence and interpretation through writing, utilize and analyze primary source documents and to not only synthesize data from various chronological periods but to take that data and apply it to interrelated categories of intellectual and cultural history, political and diplomatic history and social and economic history.
The course is intended to prepare students to take the AP European History exam on May 7, 2010. This exam includes 80 multiple-choice questions (to be completed in 55 minutes), one “document based” (DBQ) essay (to be completed in 45 minutes), and two “free-response” essays (to be completed in 70 minutes).
Hi Everyone, I uploaded the study guide for you to work on. Best way to approach: read the question, read the pages related to the question (questions are in order of reading), THEN, answer as best you can in your OWN words. Go back and consult the book to enhance your answer. Finally, consider meeting up with a few others (once you all have worked on the guide and reading individually) to review together and quiz each other! You will have approximately 2 weeks once we come back, BUT, remember, you are also reviewing for your midterm, so, plan ahead! Pacing OVERTIME!
Let me know if you have trouble uploading this study guide or the review for the midterm which is already uploaded!
Hi Everybody! Optional study guide is attached with potential FRQs. Remember, the study guide will help you prepare if completed correctly! Consider a study group once you have finished and quiz each other on content! Happy studying!

Potential FRQs: *You will have these three to choose from and you will write on one (of your choice):
1)Describe the new astronomy of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and analyze the ways in which it changed scientific thought and methods. 2) Compare and contrast the political ideas of Hobbes and Locke. 3) Analyze the ways in which specific intellectual and scientific developments of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries contributed to the emergence of the religious outlook known as “Deism.”
Attached is a study guide that can earn you bonus summation points if completed in its entirety. This is optional, so, it is meant to be a study resource. This is a great way for you to study for the exam since you will see some questions in their exact form. It is a good idea to do all that you can without the book/notes. Then, use the book and notes. Finally, meet up with a study buddy and compare!
The Voltaire assignment is due the Monday you come back from the break. Again, this is not mandatory, but, serves as an extra opportunity. The question you are attempting to answer is: to what extent does Voltaire's Candide reflect Enlightenment ideals?
Your notes and exam are scheduled for the Tuesday we return to school. Your summation should be Chapter 14 (brochure notes are fine up to page 466, then you need to do the notes for 466-478). Chapter 17 should be completed in note form as well (up to page 575 on The Rococco). Keep in mind the study guide will include the Enlightened despots, so, I would review the remaining pages of chapter 17 for the review guide.
