Welcome to ED LAW Discovery, to your freshman year, and to the beginning of your sure-to-be-Hawktastic El Dorado journey! 

 Our mission in this class is pretty simple: to work together to help you acquire, augment, and utilize skills and resources that will, coupled with your immense talents and your diligent effort, help you maximize your successes at EDHS and beyond. Through both discussions and practice, we’ll work on things like: time management, study skills, technological skills, social norms for academic and workplace success, college options and paths to get there, career options and paths to get there, and the myriad opportunities available to help ensure that you have an amazing El Dorado experience and how to take full advantage of them.

El Dorado is a place I love dearly.  It’s a place where you can grow more than you can imagine and build connections, memories, and friendships that last forever.  Of all the many things that make El Dorado special, by far and away the most significant is our students.  STUDENTS LIKE YOU, who come here and add their own lasting contributions to our culture and our community as they learn and laugh and achieve. I look forward to being your teacher and your advocate as you make your impact!!

Access the C-SPAN Classroom Deliberation on "What type of policy should the federal government enact to protect data privacy?"  Watch at least two of the provided background videos and at least two videos for each position, read at least one of the provided background articles, and use your internet research skills to find and read an additional article about this topic.

  1. Navigate to the C-SPAN Deliberation on Space Policy. 
  2. Watch at least two of the background videos and answer the corresponding questions
  3. Watch at least two of the Space Policy Priorities videos. Determine what you believe our national space policy should prioritize and complete the notetaking chart with facts and quotes you find pertinent and compelling in advocating for your position.
  4. Watch at least four of the Private Sector Involvement in Space Exploration videos. Complete the notetaking chart with facts and quotes you find pertinent and compelling for each side of the argument (in favor of and opposed to private sector invovlement). Determine to what extent you believe the private sector should be involved in space exploration.

INFRASTRUCTURE DELIBERATION DIRECTIONS:
  • Visit this folder on Google Drive and make personal copies of each of the documents (click "File" then "Make a Copy").
  • Visit the C-SPAN Deliberation on infrastructure priorities
  • Read at least two of the background articles and answer the questions provided in the Google Drive document.
  • Watch at least two of the background videos and answer the questions provided in the Google Drive document.
  • Watch at least two videos for each of the two positions (RENOVATION: prioritization of 20th century projects and INNOVATION: prioritization of 21st century projects) and take notes on the main ideas.
  • Develop your own position on which set of projects should be a higher federal government priority and be ready to discuss and defend that position in class on Monday!
  • You don't have to define these vocabulary terms, but they might be helpful to know :)
