Intro Unit - Test Study Guide

Intro Test Study Guide

  1. Observations vs. Inferences
  2. What is Science? Methods used and basic types
  3. Scientific Method - Observation, Hypothesis, Experiment, Data Collection, Conclusion, Retest
  4. Independent (x) vs. Dependent Variable (y) and controlled variables
  5. Experimental vs. Control Group
  6. Hypothesis vs. Theory vs. Law
  7. Metric system (which units measure what)
  8. Metric conversions (King Henry Doesn't Usually Drink Chocolate Milk ... Maybe... Not); jumping method (easier) or unit conversion method (helpful when dealing with more than one unit conversion in the future)
  9. Characteristics of Life: Cells, Genetic Code, Reproduction, Growth and Repair, Transformation of Energy, Movement, Respond to Changes (homeostasis)

There will multiple choice, short answer, unit conversion problems (should be able to complete without a calculator), and free response questions. You will have the full period to complete the test. Be sure to use your time well.

For extra credit, write out the most important portions of the unit on a 3" x 5" index card. Turn this in as you walk in to class on test day (Thursday). You will not be able to use this on your test but it will be helpful for you in your studies.
