Changes for the 2026/27 School Year - Click here!

Welcome to the 2026/2027 school year at El Dorado! We are excited to begin the year strong. There are several changes this year. The following are a quick list of changes students can expect on day 1 for the 2026-2027 school year. ______________________________________________________________________

1. Demerits - We will be using a demerit system to track behavior and hold students accountable for their actions. Students acquire demerits if they make a poor decision (attendance/tardies/truancies, bullying, harassment, dress code violations, cell phone violations, parking violations, etc.). Once a student accumulates 6 demerits, they are on a hold list for events, dances, parking passes, off-campus passes, sporting events etc. Students are removed from the hold list once they no longer have any demerits. Students remove demerits by completing voluntary campus beautification, before/after school detention, or Saturday School. Any demerits leftover at the end of the academic school year will roll over to the following academic school year.

Rationale: The demerit system is designed to promote personal responsibility and accountability. It provides students with clear expectations, consistent consequences, and opportunities to correct behavior while reinforcing positive decision-making throughout the school year.

2. Parking - Students are required to have a parking pass to park on campus. Student vehicles must be parked in the designated parking lot for students. Vehicles that are parked anywhere besides student parking spaces will be subject to disciplinary action, including but not limited to, written warnings, fines, and having the vehicle towed.

Rationale: Student and staff safety is our top priority. Proper parking procedures help ensure emergency vehicle access, maintain safe traffic flow before and after school, and reduce congestion and unsafe driving behaviors on campus.

3. Food and item drop offs - Delivery driver food drop offs are NOT permitted at any time during the school day. Any delivery driver attempting to drop off food to students will be turned away. If parents wish to drop food off they can do so in the front office after being signed in through Raptor, our visitor security system. Students may receive consequences, such as demerits, for any non-permitted drop-offs.

Rationale: Limiting deliveries during the school day improves campus security by reducing unauthorized visitors, minimizes classroom disruptions, and helps maintain a safe and orderly learning environment for all students.

4.Tardies - Tardies will now be cumulative for all classes, not per period. For example, one day a student may be tardy to 1st, 3rd and 5th period this would count as three (3) cumulative tardies. Parents/guardians will be notified by the Attendance Director beginning with their students 5th overall tardy. Consequences will be assigned for the 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th and 50th overall tardy.

Rationale: Cumulative tardies emphasize the importance of punctuality in every class. Students who arrive on time maximize instructional opportunities, reduce classroom disruptions, and develop habits that contribute to future academic and workplace success.

______________________________________________________________________

5. Student IDs - Students will need to present their ID whenever they are leaving campus for lunch, or leaving during an off 4th/5th/6th period (must have off campus sticker and/or lunch sticker). Students who do not have their ID at school or at school events may be assigned demerits, and possible removal from the event.

Rationale: Student identification helps staff quickly verify who belongs on campus and who is authorized to leave. This practice strengthens campus security and allows us to respond more effectively during emergencies and daily supervision.

______________________________________________________________________

6. Off Campus (Home periods) - If students do not have a 1st, 4th, 5th or 6th period, they will be asked to remain in designated areas on campus until they have their scheduled class. You are required to have an off campus sticker (different from a lunch sticker) on your ID. These areas include the library and senior quad. If students are not remaining in the designated areas parents may be called to pick up their student.

Rationale: Designated on-campus areas allow staff to appropriately supervise students during unscheduled periods while ensuring student safety and accountability. This also helps us quickly locate students in the event of an emergency.

BORDER2026-27 PARKING PERMIT INFORMATION & CHANGES

As we begin the new school year, we want to share an update regarding student parking permits.

Last year, we inadvertently issued approximately 532 parking permits for a parking lot with only 420 available spaces. This resulted in overcrowding, made it difficult for students with permits to consistently find parking on campus, and created unnecessary traffic congestion that presented safety concerns for students, staff, and families throughout the school day.

To better align the number of permits with our available parking and improve campus safety, we will issue 450 parking permits this school year. Permits will be distributed based on grade level priority, beginning with seniors, followed by juniors beginning on August 10. If permits remain available after those groups have been served, they will be offered to sophomores, beginning on August 24. Students who still want a parking pass after 450 have been allocated will be placed on a waiting list. If students park in unauthorized spaces, or park without a permit they will receive a warning and the incident will be documented. Further parking violations will result in vehicles being fined and/or towed.

For students who are unable to obtain a parking permit, we have included a map identifying appropriate off-campus parking locations that may be used during the school day.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to create a safer, more efficient parking system for our students and families. Please remind your student that vehicles may only be parked in designated legal parking areas. Students who park in unauthorized areas or without a valid parking permit may be subject to school parking consequences.
