Gather your ceramics tools and take a picture of them. Submit the photo to this assignment.



You should have 9 ceramic tools altogether, including your canvas mat:
1. Large Loop Tool
2. Small Loop Tool
3. Wire Cutters
4. Metal Rib
5. Wooden Rib
6. Sponge
7. Needle Tool
8. Wire Cutters

*Remember, these tools are just like the textbooks you get for your other classes.  You will need to return these tools to the ceramics class by the end of the year.  If you are missing any tools you will need to pay $1 to refund them.

Turn in at least 2 photos of your Functional Animal:

3. (Optional) Additional View of project that you feel shows an area that cannot be seen by a photo taken from the top and side.

Take a photo of your project at whatever stage you are at and turn in the photo to this assignment.


To earn 100 points: You should be able to show a weeks worth of progress on your project since last Friday.  We are a little over halfway done with this project, so your project should look as if it is at least half way completed if not 3/4 of the way completed.

By this Friday, you will turn in a photo of the progress you have made on your Functional "Animal" project so far. Take a photo of your project at whatever stage you are at and turn in the photo to this assignment.

100 points = You have started to add features and/or decoration to your mask (See attached image for an example of what 100 pts may look like)
50 points = You have a draped and started to form the slab over your newspaper mold
25 points = You have draped your slab over your newspaper mold
0 points = You only have your newspaper mold, or have not started your mask

Create a design that you would like to carve into your Coaster #3. Draw or print out your design onto your paper coaster template. See slides #54-57 for instructions.

Helpful tips when creating your design:
1. Keep it relatively simple. Lots of tiny details will be difficult to carve & may not come out well.

2. Fill the entire template with design. Too many blank areas will make it look unfinished.

3. Look for inspiration online! Not sure what to do? Try looking for images/patterns online.

4. Print it! Not great at drawing? Print your template design off the computer if you want! Just make sure it’s the correct size.

Take a picture of your Coaster #3 Template Design and turn it into this assignment. See example image below.

How to turn in assignment:

Create your first coaster using the attached slideshow for project steps and directions.

Take a picture of your SIGNED "Ceramic Tool Rules" print out that was given to you when you picked up your clay & tools.

Attached below is the document you need signed in case you lost yours and need to print a new one.

Turn in a photo of a rolling pin OR an alternative rolling pin you found in your home that you will be using when we start our first project next week.

If you do not have a rolling pin at home, you will need to find an object that can act as a rolling pin. See the slideshow below for examples of objects that can be used as alternative rolling pins.

Complete the following assignment by reviewing the instructions in the attached slideshow titled "Ceramic Tools Cheat Sheet".

Turn in your assignment by adding a new slide to your Ceramics Virtual Portfolio, inserting your work on the new slide, and turning in your entire virtual portfolio to this assignment. See Ms. Erickson's example of her Ceramics Virtual Portfolio attached below.

For this assignment, you will need to turn in a picture of 2 things:

1. Your Coaster Template you created in class. (Make sure it is cut out)
2. A photo of 4-6 small objects you can possibly use as "stamps" to imprint a design into your first coaster.
*See the attached image below for an example of what you need to turn in.


Tips when choosing your stamp objects:
- Keep them small! Anything that will create an imprint larger than 1/2 inch will be too big to stamp onto your coaster
- Try to find a VARIETY of different stamp shapes.
- The more the better! You need to find at least 4 different things you can use for stamps, but find as many as you can! This will give you lots of options for when we actually create our design on our first coaster.

Complete the following assignment in your Ceramics Virtual Portfolio.

Follow the directions on the slideshow titled "Principles of Design in Ceramics".

Complete today's assignment by following the directions in the attached slideshow "Zentangles: Get into the Flow"

Complete the following assignment by reviewing the instructions in the attached slideshow titled "Stages of Clay Cheat Sheet".

Turn in your assignment by adding a new slide to your Ceramics Virtual Portfolio, inserting your work on the new slide, and turning in your entire virtual portfolio to this assignment. See Ms. Erickson's example of her Ceramics Virtual Portfolio attached below.

Complete your Nature & Art assignment by following the directions on the "Nature & Art: Andy Goldsworthy" slideshow. Directions on slides #10 & #11.

When you have completed your Nature Art, take a picture of it and add it to a new slide in your Ceramics Virtual Portfolio. Next to your picture, write an explanation of your process of creating your Nature Art.
