This is a senior level class which meets the graduation requirements for the fourth year of Language Arts. This course advances student skills in the areas of Reading, Writing and Listening and Speaking, in accordance to the California Language Arts Content Standards and Benchmarks. Students are provided instruction in Word Analysis, Vocabulary Development, Reading Comprehension, Writing Strategies/Applications and Listening and Speaking Strategies through the Analysis and Response to state recommended grade level literature. Curriculum will include weekly vocabulary units; reading and analysis of classic works and novels from British literature; homework in grammar and writing; and completion of a senior project. GRADING POLICY: Final Quarter and Semester grades will be based on points earned in each of the following categories:
• Classwork/Notes = 50% • Quizzes/Tests = 35% • Homework = 15%
Quizzes and Tests may be re-taken to improve a poor performance on the first attempt. This class is required for graduation.
**Note: Students will be required to complete and present a Senior Project in May. They will receive a Senior Project Handbook in November. Points for Senior Projects will account for 15% of the students' second semester final grade. Grading for second semester is as follows:
