LA 2

We will finish up Fahrenheit this week! Keep reading and doing your annotations. There is a quiz on Friday on the last part of the book. Your final on finals day will be on the novel. Also, we have oral presentations this week on the allusion you researched--make sure you know what day you are scheduled to go. Finally, we will be working on an imagery project in class this week--bring any materials you want to use from home.

We will finish up Othello, and will be working on an Othello art project this week. The final on finals day will be on Othello.  Also, your Othello art project and AP one sheet are due on finals day. No vocab. this week!

LA 2

We are going to the library today to research the allusion that was assigned to you. The typed paragraph for the allusion is due Jan. 21st, and we will begin oral presentations on that day. There is also a quiz on Part 2 of Fahrenheit 451 on Tuesday (1/14). We will be discussing Part 2 this week, as well as looking at a poem "Dover Beach".  On Friday, we will write a paragraph in class on why Bradbury includes "Dover Beach" in the novel.  Keep up with your reading! Pages 115-131 are due on Friday, and pages 131-147 are due on Jan. 21st.

LA 2 Honors

We will finish reading the play this week, and will also look at Iago's use of rhetoric in Act III. We will also look at artwork that was inspired by the play (end of this week/beginning of next week). We have vocab. this week. Also, begin working on your AP One sheet (due the day of your final), and get your book for the research project that we will do 2nd semester.

We are picking back up with Fahrenheit 451. Pages 73-94 are due on Thursday, along with the annotations.  We are also discussing the 1st part of the book this week. Finally, we are also going to be looking at Beatty and Faber's speeches to Montag and comparing them.

We are continuing with Othello this week, focusing on Act III. We will be looking at how Iago uses rhetoric to convince people into believing what he wants them to believe. We also will have vocab. this week--definitions due on Wednesday, and a quiz on Friday.

Continue reading Fahrenheit 451, following the reading schedule.  There are pages due on Tuesday and Friday, along with annotations. There is also a quiz on Friday over the 1st part of the novel.  Also this week, we will be looking at the role of television in society, and writing a paragraph on how Montag has changed since the beginning of the novel.

We are continuing with Act II of Othello, and will be looking at how Iago uses language to manipulate those around him into believing his lies. There is also vocabulary this week, with a quiz on Friday.

The rewrite for the Antigone essays are due tomorrow! This is voluntary. Everyone does need to complete the self-evaluation though. Also, we are reading our last short story this week ("Harrison Bergeron"), and will be writing a 3 paragraph response comparing the story to a movie version. The paragraphs will be due next week.  Coming soon--we will be having a short story final, and we will begin reading Fahrenheit 451!

LA 2 Honors

We are wrapping up Gatsby this week with the test and essay on Wed./Thurs. The typed copy of the essay is due on Monday (12/9), and the AP One sheet on Tuesday (12/10). We will also be starting Othello, by introducing some background information this week. We will start reading the play next week.

We are reading and discussing "The Pedestrian" this week.  Tonight (11/18) for homework, please finish the questions started in class. We will also be working on imagery analysis during the week. You will get your Antigone essays back later in the week--rewrites are optional, but strongly suggested, and will be due Dec. 3rd.

We will finish The Great Gatsby this week.  There are quizzes on Tuesday (7) and Friday (8-9). We will be examining the cover art this week, and creating our own versions of the cover.  The final and essay for Gatsby will be when we return from Thanksgiving break. Start working on those AP One Sheets!

We are writing a body paragraph in class today, and will be focusing on "The Sound of Thunder" for the rest of the week.  No vocab. again!

We finished discussing chapters 3-4 today, and will have a quiz on chapters 5-6 tomorrow (Wednesday). Later in the week, we will be examining the art of Francis Cugat, who designed the famous Gatsby book cover. Chapter 7 is due next Tuesday, 11/19. No vocab. this week!

The essay is due tomorrow! Please make sure to follow all the requirements.  Also, we will continue with short stories, discussing "Babylon" and reading "There Will Come Soft Rains." There will be an in-class body paragraph based on "Soft Rains" later in the week.

We are working on the Antigone essay this week, and beginning to read short stories. The main focus should be the essay.  An outline is due on Wednesday (10/30), and the final draft of the essay is due Nov. 5th (Tuesday).  It should be typed in MLA format. We will be reading "By the Waters of Babylon" and doing study questions as well this week. There is no vocab. this week.

We are starting Gatsby this week.  Chapters 1-2 are due on Wednesday, and we will have a quiz. We will also be looking at aspects of the American Dream, and analyzing the 1st chapter in detail.  There is vocab. this week--due on Thursday with a quiz on Friday.

It's a big week!  The ode paragraph is due on Tuesday (typed).  We have the Antigone final on Wednesday.  On Thursday, we will introduce the essay topic.  Finally, we are introducing our next unit, a science fiction short story unit leading into Fahrenheit 451.  There is no vocab. this week since we are so busy!

We are discussing Scenes 2-3 of Antigone this week, and will start Scenes 4-5 on Tuesday or Wednesday.  Also, we will be reviewing the Oedipus body paragraphs (Wednesday or Thursday) for rewriting.  Rewriting is required for any grade below a B (19 points or below), and is optional for those who got As or Bs.  The rewrites will be due next Wednesday (Oct. 16).  Finally, we do have vocab. this week--the packet is due on Wednesday (Oct. 9), and the quiz is on Friday.

We are discussing the odes of the prologue and scene 1 today, and analyzing a painting in relation to the play. We will begin scenes 2-3 tomorrow, and will discuss those scenes on Wednesday/Thursday.  We also have vocabulary--definitions due Wednesday, and quiz on Friday.
