The AP 2D Studio Art course is designed for college-bound students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art and wish to develop mastery in the concept, composition, and execution of their ideas. The AP Program is based on the premise that college-level material can be taught successfully to secondary students. Therefore content for the course will be taught at the college entry level. It is the school's recommendation that students entering AP Studio Art 2D, have already completed the introductory Digital Photography course.
This class requires students to take photographs OUTSIDE the school day.
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOUR STUDENT BE ABLE TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY, AT A HIGH ARTISTIC LEVEL AND BE HIGHLY MOTIVATED. LACK OF EFFORT, INAPPROPRIATE USE OF COMPUTERS, AND PROCRASTINATION (SEE GRADING PROCEDURES BELOW) MAY RESULT IN FAILING GRADES. STUDENTS WHO RECEIVE A "D" OR "F" FIRST SEMESTER IN AP WILL BE TRANSFERRED FROM AP 2D STUDIO ART TO ANOTHER COURSE.
DMAA COURSES for the PHOTO PATHWAY:
YEAR 1: Digital Design & Illustration
YEAR 2: Digital Photo*
YEAR 3: AP 2D Studio Art (AP Photo)*
YEAR 4: Yearbook, another DMAA course in another pathway (Video, Game Art, Graphic Design), Senior DMAA Photo Club
*You MUST receive a grade of “C” or above in these 2 classes in order to receive the DMAA Medallion worn at graduation. Other classes are optional.
