What Class Should I Take Next?

WE RECOMMEND THESE COURSES OF STUDY FOR SCIENCE AT EL DORADO HIGH SCHOOL:

For incoming freshman, we offer two different choices for your first science course in high school:

Biology

This college prep course provides a foundation in biological concepts, builds organizational skills, develops critical thinking and problem solving skills, and requires good reading and writing skills. There is a heavy emphasis on laboratory skills as well.

Honors Biology

This advanced science course moves at a faster pace and goes more in depth while offering challenging assignments and a rigorous workload. Emphasis will be placed on laboratory work and problem-solving.

  • If you are interested in merely satisfying the science requirements for high school graduation, we recommend the state-mandated TWO YEARS of high school science:

Year 1: Biology

Year 2: Chemistry

  • If you are interested in attending a four-year college or university- with a non-science major- we recommend THREE YEARS of high school science to be completed. Again, some suggestions include:

Year 1: Biology

Year 2: Chemistry

Year 3: Physics, Physiology, or APES

  • If you are interested in pursuing a science-related major at a four-year college or university, we recommend FOUR YEARS of high school science, with Honors and Advanced Placement courses, when possible:

Year 1: Biology or Honors Biology

Year 2: Chemistry or Honors Chemistry

Year 3: Physics or AP Physics 1

Year 4: AP Biology or AP Chemistry or AP Environmental Science or Physiology
