In this webinar, students and parents will examine recruiting from an educational standpoint to learn how counselors can “coach” them on how to ask the right questions, self-recruit to achieve their athletic goals, and avoid the “Here’s How to Win a Scholarship” distractions from popular media and for-profit recruiting services. We will include the latest trends in athletic recruiting, including specialization, early commitments, the rise of club sports, the nuances of NESCAC and Ivy league recruiting, the accelerated timeline, and the impact of the pandemic on recruiting from both the coaches’ and students’ perspectives.

This Fall 2021 UCI is collaborating with students from the University of California, Irvine to host a series of workshops regarding the college application processes. They will also provide peer reviews for college essays, job applications, and resumes. They would like to invite our high school students to join us via Zoom. High schoolers will get the opportunity to participate in discussions with college undergraduates about how to navigate life as an undergraduate preparing for a career in health. High school students from all grade levels are invited!

The Fall program consists of a series of workshops between November 7th - November 23rd, 2021. Here is a list of upcoming workshops:

  • Tips For College Applications - Confused about college applications? What materials do you need to apply? Follow along as we share tips about how to make your application stand out. Click here to see recorded presentation. Slides to presentation here.

  • How to Choose Your Major - How do you plan out the next 4 years of your life, when you don't even know what you want to eat for breakfast tomorrow? Join our discussion about how we realized what major was right for us. Click here to see recorded presentation.

  • Tuesday, November 23 from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Paying For College. College is expensive. So how do UCI students afford tuition, housing, or even the occasional cup of boba? In this workshop, we will discuss the FAFSA, student loans, and scholarship applications. Click here to register for this workshop!

Peer Review will be conducted by undergraduate level pre-health students at UCI. We will accept college essays, job applications, and resumes anytime between November 1st to November 22. Feedback will be provided within 1-5 business days.

US NAVAL ACADEMY INFO EVENTS

Over the week of Thanksgiving, the US Naval Academy sends some students home early to their hometowns to talk to schools and candidates. For those unfamiliar with the Naval Academy, we are located in Annapolis and one of the 5 US service academies. Students earn a 4 year bachelors degree and a commission as an officer in the US Navy.

In our area, we hold a few big events during the week of Thanksgiving so candidates can connect with midshipmen currently attending the Academy. This is a great opportunity for students and parents to learn more about the Naval Academy, what life is like there, and get some good tips from successful candidates who are now midshipmen.

The event at Chapman University is at 6pm on Monday, November 22nd. Attached is a flyer that also has some other events in the greater LA area that your students may want to consider if you can't make the Chapman event.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
